Welcome to the Advanced Microtechnologies for Microsurgery Network

Funded by the EPSRC

The Advanced Microtechnologies for Microsurgery Network aims to identify specific potential new technological solutions and clinical opportunities arising in microsurgery and micro-therapies by combining the benefits of smart technologies, micro-fabrication processes and nanotechnology. Specifically, the objectives of the Network are to:

Define short and longer-term research strategies to build the integrated expertise and appropriate innovations and technologies to support micro-tools for microsurgery and cell surgery.
Define categories of application of micro-technologies, nano-science and bionanotechnology in microsurgery and cell surgery and to identify the potential impact through social-economic benefit.
Encourage collaboration between centres of innovation in micro-therapy and micro/ nanotechnologies to form multi-disciplinary teams and to engage in research studies on high impact applications in order to output research proposals.
Identify gaps in technology where research study could target strategically.
Engage with other national and international initiatives promoting communication on research progress in the field to increase the impact of the work of the Network and to place it in the perspective of the state-of-the-art world-wide.
Provide for education across the professional disciplines to encourage wider interest and activity in the topic.
Engage further expertise in the Network as the need arises.
Achieve a self-sustaining activity and infrastructure by the end of the funding period of the proposed Network programme that will enable regular meeting of experts with a view to advancing the field and to providing an education function across the professional disciplines involved.
